The Month That Was is a new feature on Through the Looking Glass. On the last day of each month, it will take a look back at the month that was and the highlights (and lowlights) from it.

• Roger Ebert “speaks” for the first time since losing his voice to throat cancer on Oprah. For me though, the real highlight was listening to him reminisce about an ice cold root beer he shared with his father as a child.
• Ontario students “try” to live on a mere $7.50 a day for food (as set out by the Ontario Student Assistance Program) for three weeks. They all (presumably) survived the ordeal.
• Andy Richter spoke candidly about NBC and Jay Leno while filling in for Regis Philbin on Live with Regis and Kelly.
• We wondered whatever happened to Amanda Marshall, but still have no answers to that question.
• On the day of this blog’s 50th post, I stood up for women bloggers everywhere after the Globe and Mail‘s Margaret Wente announced women don’t blog.
• The Adam Giambrone witch hunt continued.
• Dancing with the Stars returned (hey, it can’t be all doom and gloom, everyone could use some sequins in their life).
• The Barenaked Ladies released the best album of their career.
• We took a look at bloggers and their (apparent) quest for fame.
